On the 24th October, I received a note from Sir John Pope Hennessy.

I called upon him the next morning. In consequence, he said it was a very painful matter which had occurred during his absence. He regretted I had not waited before seeing Dr Eitel for his return.
That Dr Eitel had not given, so far as he understood, an accurate account of the circumstances which had taken place between himself and Mr Hayllar, and that he had probably confused what His Excellency had told him with what he had heard outside.
He (His Excellency) said that the book, which Dr Eitel had stated Mr Hayllar introduced into Lady Hennessy's Boudoir, was not a copy of the catalogue of the private museum at Naples, but the authorised catalogue of the public museum.
